The Real You - Alan Watts Letcture
Who are you really? There is an amazing lecture given by Alan Watts a British philosopher, writer, and speaker and he asks the question... “When you’re ready to wake up, you’re going to wake up, and if you’re not ready you’re going to stay pretending that you’re just a ‘poor little me.’ And since you’re all here and engaged in this sort of inquiry and listening to this sort of lecture, I assume you’re all in the process of waking up. Or else you’re teasing yourselves with some kind of flirtation with waking up which you’re not serious about. But I assume that maybe you are not serious, but sincere – that you are ready to wake up."
"So then, when you’re in the way of waking up, and finding out who you really are, what you do is what the whole universe is doing at the place you call here and now. You are something that the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is something that the whole ocean is doing… The real you is not a puppet which life pushes around; the real, deep down you is the whole universe.”
- Alan Watts from the lecture "Does it do you, or do you do it?"
I would like to believe that every person on this planet will experience an awakening of some sorts at some point in their life. There are so many different paths that can lead to awakening, sometimes this awareness comes from years of study and meditation, other times trauma or illness become the trigger that will catapult an individual's conscious awareness into new levels that were once beyond their perception.
But what comes after the waking up? My personal journey of becoming "woke" was initiated from the latter category, it was trauma & illness that woke me up, and it wasn't unicorns, white light, and rainbow light bodies and sunshine either... Waking up after living in an unconscious state for 34 years of my life lead to one spectacular crash landing, but I got up, brushed myself off and with this new awareness to the reality and set out to figure out who I Am. I'd like to use this blog as an opportunity to to have a conversation with my friends about what comes next after being woke up!
